About the event
Keeping bees and not sure how to prepare your hive for winter? Join us for a private beekeeping session dedicated to overwintering with AOOA Project Director Alix Daguin. Honey bees innately know how to keep safe and warm and healthy throughout the winter, but there are differences between their natural hives and manmade bee boxes. So, it's up to the beekeeper to tweak the hives to prepare the bees for long periods of confinement over winter. Learn how to evaluate how factors like precipitation, humidity, temperatures, wind, hours of sunlight, the strength of the hive, food supply, board placement, and pests will impact your bee colony. Leave with a plan to overwinter your bees with minimal losses and excellent results.
Please come dressed to impress the bees: wear loose clothing with long pants and long-sleeved shirts, tall socks, and work gloves. One ticket is good for up to 3 kids and 3 adults. We have 3 young child-sized suits and 3 adult suits available for those who want to get close to the hives.
